Getting Started

To use the BuildRight Designs drafting service, all you need to do is provide us with some measurements of the existing structure, along with a description of what you want done, and we will e-mail you back fully rendered 3D and 2D drawings of your proposed design changes.

These drawings can be used to help define the design, to get quotes from builders, to spec out appliances, cupboards and flooring, and to get development permits from City Hall.

Communication is normally done through email and phone.  Site visits can be done within the supported Geographical areas.

What we need from you:

What we need to get started is a written description of what changes you want to make to your existing home, along with the following details:

1) Scanned or faxed diagrams of the exterior dimensions of the building (outside wall to outside wall) including decks, doors, and window positions.

2) Scanned or faxed inside floor plan with room sizes, window positions, doors, closets.

3) Pictures of the exterior of the building that show floor heights and roof lines (roof pitch).

4) Pictures of the interior of the building that show colors and furniture.

If you are uncomfortable with doing your own site measurements, there are various professional home measurement services available that can do this work for you (contact us for more information).

What we provide back to you:

Stage 1:

Preliminary 3D renderings showing the existing structure, with one or more rendered changes.

This gives you a set of quick rough images to help flesh out design ideas. One or more drawings are done to block out the major elements of the structure, and highlight what changes are going to be made.

Stage 2:

Detailed 3D renderings of the existing structure built to scale, with the proposed changes incorporated into the design.

The design may include one or more of the following elements:

    1. interior design elements, including: cabinets, flooring, lighting, furniture, colors, textures, doors, stairways.
    2. exterior design elements, including: roof types, siding types, stairways, decks, railings, trim colors.
    3. landscaping features, including: elevation marks, grass, hedges and plants, pathways, fences.
    4. architectural detailing, such as crown molding and built-in bookshelves.

3 sets of drawings are produced:

    • Preliminary drawing with all the elements in place.
    • Intermediate drawing incorporating customer suggestions and comments.
    • Final drawings after all comments have been addressed.

Drawings sets are provided as a PDF file that includes multiple full color 3D rendered images, along with the proposed floor plan.  Final printed color drawings are also be provided on 8x17 paper.  We can also courier you full scale printed drawings if that service is required.

Stage 3:

Detailed 2D drawings for Engineering review and Permit applications.

Final 2D drawings suitable for submission for building permits – including floor plan, site plan, elevation drawings, cross sections and overhead drawings.  Drawings indicate the existing structure and the proposed changes to that structure.

3 versions of the permit applications are done:

    • Preliminary version for review
    • Final 'submission' version
    • City Hall specified changes to final version.

Drawings are provided in PDF format, in either 8x11 portrait, 11x17 legal, A1, or
    A2 format.

Drawings can be printed scaled to a standard 8x11 printer. Large format drawings can be printed at local print shops (click here to find nearest print shop).

Custom Design Services:

Stuck for ideas? Our professional design services consultants are available to review your needs, and then present you with ideas and options that meet those needs.

Consultations start with a 1 hour in-home meeting, followed by 1 or more additional meetings. Design ideas are presented to the customer as printed 3D drawings, or viewed in real-time on the computer (including walk-throughs, and dynamically changing camera positions).

Interiors can be fully accessorized with furniture, cabinets, carpeting, drapes, different wall colors and textures - allowing you to review the various decorating combinations to help you decide on a final plan.

Working with your team:

As the design progresses from conceptual to final permit, we are available to coordinate drawing changes with the builder, structural engineer, city hall, suppliers, and trades people.

This ensures that everyone is up to speed on what the final objectives are, and that no one gets left out of the loop.

We don't require a specific contractor, or cabinet supplier. Preliminary drawings can be custom configured  to meet supplier specifications.
